Hit-and-run deaths are at an all-time high. An average of six people are killed by hit-and-run drivers each day in the United States and California is leading the way.  According to a 2018 AAA report 2049 people were killed by hit-and-run crashes in 2016, making it the deadliest year on record.  Sadly, these numbers are trending upward.

Did you know...

  • Hit-and-run fatalities have reached epidemic proportions and trending n the wrong direction.

  • The majority of hit-and-run victims are pedestrians or cyclists.

  • Fatal hit-and-runs are more likely to occur on the weekend, after dark and/or on roads less traveled.

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and having a revoked or suspended license are the most likely reasons a driver will flee the scene of a deadly crash.

We are the family of Jamari Julian Moore, a 15-year-old hit-and-run victim, killed August 17, 2017, while riding his bicycle in Sacramento California.  The driver who killed Jamari fled the scene and conspired with an accomplice to cover up his crime.  By running away and delaying arrest, the hit-and-run driver was able to avoid DUI testing and the possibility of enhanced criminal charges.

This devastating loss rocked our foundation, but amid our grief we became aware of an alarming hit-and-run epidemic affecting families just like ours.   We have decided to do something about it!

Sentencing Outcome: The driver, who admitted using drugs earlier on the day he killed Jamari, eventually plead guilty to felony hit-and-run and was sentenced to probation/no jail time.
